8:30 am leaving Solomons Island. Beautiful weather much calmer, lots of other sailboats leaving at the same time, counted 8 and one trawler. We have not seen this many before all at the same time

June 12, 2014 Smiths Point Marina, on the border of Virginia and Maryland
It was a warm foggy calm morning after the wild night of severe lighting and thunder along with hail and pouring down rain. We were so tired from coming thru the 4-6 ft. Waves with 10 to 15kt winds today that getting up in the middle of the night, in the middle of the storm was only a thought
We had tied up to the dock securely and secured everything in anticipation of bad bad storm coming. I said a prayer asking that our mast not get hit by lighting and asked Curt of we should unplug the electronic stuff but little discussion before it started to quiet down and we both asleep,
Woke up this morning with all electronics working. Thank full we were not the couple in a 22 ft stranded on the ground somewhere out in the open in the Chesapeake Bay Area all night. Hopefully the tide came up and they got off their grounded spot to shelter before the storm hit.
Only one boat out, a ferry type. Curt talked with the captain and asked how the water on the bay was. He said it was laying down this morning since he left Tangiet Island across the Chesapeake Bay Area but still rolling. He had come accross to pick up a Doctor and nurse to take back to Tangier Island for the day. Cool I could be doing satellite clinic today
Curt asked another fishing boat captain how it was on outside bay waters, he said the waves were probably still rough from yesterday. With the thought of worse weather impending and the want to be farther north before the winds changed out of the north blowing against us as we made it up to Annapolis and Baltimore to meet Amanda. We decided to leave. Leaving our safe anchorage we made it to the entrance of the Bay to find waves 3 f t -4ft but no current, wind behind us 12-15 kts, slack tide, still 4 miled fog. A really good time to cross the 10 mile opening to the Potomac River. Choosing not to traverse the 100 miles up the river to Washington D.C., even though that would be very cool. Wondering if we made the right decision a few miles away as the waves started getting closer together and 4-6 ft., the boat rolling 20-30 degrees from port to starboard we

June 11, 2014 leaving Deltaville Yacht Center
Heading for Annapolis today with a stop in between then onto Baltimore to meet Amanda Welte, anxious to see her and her family. Made it to Smith Point Marina, stopped early due to a severe thunderstorm with poss. hail and winds gusting 30-40 miles an hour. Sitting here tied up ready for a big blow. SE winds 5-10 miles an hour until the storm gets here. Thunderstorms forecasted again early tomorrow morning as well as each afternoon for the next 4 days. :( Keep praying for safe travels for us. Curt just said we made 26 miles today. Jib worked well in the 10-15 kt winds with gusts higher. Waves were 4-5 ft. pounding and bow of boat dipping down and pointing up on the big waves. Better after we turned more north. 5 hours travel time today making tomorrow a long day to Annapolis providing weather cooperates. Just happy to be in a sheltered marina for now.
June10, 2014 Tuesday Deltaville Yacht Club
Ran errands again, finally got the laundry done and water in the tank.
Stopped by a sailmaker's shop, Ullman's Sails and had the jib
completely resewed, yeah, for less than we have found all the way up the
coast. Installed the new jib halyard (Curt climbing the mast with a
home made Bosun's chair and Nelson cranking and me pulling the rope to
get him to the top.) After the second try we got it done and also
installed the old rope as a secondary halyard. Curt up the mast for at
least an hour, his legs were pretty numb by the time he got back down on
the boat. But all was done and Curt was safe. Thanks Nelson once
again, couldn't do it by ourselves. Curt also installed a new cable on
the rudder, hopefully it will work better than the current system. Good
day. Peel and eat shrimp once again, yumm Restocked our groceries.
Ready to go.

June 8, 2014 Sunday leaving Sunset Marina
weather clear with light winds NW, 62 degrees. Away from the dock at 0830 am. Motored and sailed with Jib to Deltaville. 1700Arrived in Deltaville, following waves and 10-12 knot winds, seeing the higher wind when turning into the channel for Deltaville of the Chesapeake Bay. Nelson meeting us at the dock with a cold beverage and snacks which we promptly had after tying up and then dinner of pork chops and vegetables in foil pack on the grill. Of course cheesecake pudding to be eaten on animal crackers.
June 9, 2014 Monday
Hung out with Nelson all day today. Ran errands with him. Found a spinnaker at a consignment shop that will fit our newly purchased spinnaker, we think perfectly. Anxious to try it. Bought 1 lb spicy shrimp and reg. boiled shrimp. Went back to Nelson's 47 ft. Beneteau "Sante" for peel and eat shrimp. Yumm Hummus and crackers and beer mid afternoon. Life is good. Finished our errands, and went back to Nelson's boat for homemade Pina Coladas. Got to use my magic bullet. yeah glad I brought it on the trip, neat to use it again! Traded the Captain's chair in for a new one at West Marine because it was ripping out in the back by the hinge. No questions asked return, yeah! Back to our boat for fresh tuna, grilled on our grill after the fresh corn on the cob done. Spicy rice and beans and 3 bean salad. Yum on the back of our boat with a cool breeze from the water and a good visit among old friends. Thanks Nelson for making the trip from Richmond to Deltaville.
