0700-Waking up to the geese honking, swimming around our boat, we found a wonderful basket of muffins on the bow of our boat, left by Kathy. Started the generator for coffee to go with the muffinss. Yum, what a treat. Went in to give Kathy the key and say goodbye, gave her a note with the rectangle lavender tatting since she had just helped her daughter do the nursery in lavender and gray with white, beautiful pictures of the nursery and Kathy's sewing. Wondering what she will do with this piece of tatting, guess she needed this bigger blessing with grandbaby coming. Waiting to see the pictures of you wearing the Grandmother Tiara, Kathy! Too much fun!!!
0830 After saying good bye to Lauren and getting our empty bowl and leftover animal crackers we departed heading for the known to be dreaded Dismal Swamp Canal, innocent to the reason why people avoided it we continued on to the entrance. Absolutely beautiful water to there and thru it, but found the logs floating in the water way and neat for both of us watching for logs sticking up in the middle of the waterway along with shallow 6 ft waters. Did hit one tree and trim a few branches with the mast, later finding what appeared to be a muscadine grape on the Bimini of the boat.
1500 MM28 Stopped at the Dismal Swamp Visitors center with 2 other boats for the night. Going thru the waterway slowly reminded us of the movie "African Queen". Listening to the birds, and watching the heavy wood area, trees on both edges encroaching up on mast in the center of the water way we crept our way thru.
Walked over to the museum and followed the 1/2 mile boardwalk only seeing a squirrel and bunny rabbit, we wondered if there were any black bears close that were watching us. Lots of blackberry thickets on the side of the walkway. Bridge tender later told us blackbears will walk on the boardwalk to eat the blackberries on the edge
1700 Back to the boat, with everything closed, rest trying to decide what to have for supper. Got a call from Lauren's dad who said he would stop by at 7 pm. Ended up visiting with people who had stopped at the visitor center which was a rest stop for the interstate. Kept having people stop by to visit and ask our story of where we were going, where we were from. Finally a little after 7 started supper hoping Kevin would be late. At the end of supper, Kevin called said it was farther to where we were than he previously thought and wouldn't be able to make it tonight. Curt got to visit with him for a while, tell him how much we enjoyed his daughter and her friends. Too tired to stay up any longer I went to bed around 10, Curt stayed up to let the generator charge the battery for an hour but kept falling asleep so turned the generator off and both asleep by 10:30pm.
