May 6, 2014 Tuesday Ortega Yacht Club Marina
Left this morning around 08:45 am after making an appointment with the Main Stree Bridge to raise at 10:30. Tied up to the dock at the Downtown Jacksonville Landing to wait for the opening time, current very fast coming in from the ocean. Went in to one of the shops for a fruit filled smoothie. Boy did that icy drink hit the spot. 1:15 Entered Sister Creek and the ICW again. Saw lots of big transport ships on the way in, passing us with little wake. Averaged 6 knots or more since leaving this morning. 5 pm arrived at Fernandina Harbor Marina, decided on a slip at the dock since attempting to get together with an old pilot friend that used to work in Aberdeen, now working not to far from here. Walked around town to look at the historic downtown and all eateries. Ended up coming back to the boat for hamburgers, had several pictures of us taken on our boat by sightseers at the restaurant just a short way away from the our slip. Was interesting to sit out on the boat and eat dinner watching them watching us. Nice quiet evening. Big news for the evening was a boat coming into the dock, 100ft long taking 1200 gallons of gas at approx. $4.00/gallon, you do the math. They had just come in from the ocean, heading north early in the morning. Had the captain and 3 crew to help tie up the boat. Lots of pictures and people of the boat was going on. Never did see anyone other than crew except for an older gentleman up with the captain during the docking.
