March 8, 2014 Saturday, Still here at Coral Lagoon Resort and Boathouse Marina

Last night there were alot of people around a boat on the dock opposite of us, so we went to check it out.  A manatee had come in beside one of the boats, this is the first closeup sighting for me and some of the other boaters so all were taking pictures and watching him suck down fresh water.  Apparently like the dolphins, the Manatees need fresh water, they can not drink salt water even though they live in it.  Dolphins get their fresh water from the fish they eat, I think the Manatee is the same, but I'm not sure.  Anyway Mr. or Mrs. Manatee really liked sucking down the water from the hose, nibbled on it till it got it in it's mouth and just drank and drank, floating more and more.  After 15-20 minutes the other boaters quit giving it water and it hung around begging for more.  Rule is not to give them water or touch them but it seems everyone does anyway.  It was fun to watch nonetheless.  They do seem to be such a slow moving sloth gentle creature.

Today is the famous Seafood Festival which everyone has been waiting for.  Eric Stone opened the all day bands and the vendors of all types had their tents set up for the two days.  Conch fritters, soup.  Lobster dinners, fish and chips, Cuban Coffee which was tried by one of our friends, stronger than expresso.  Gyro's were the main food items.  This was an unusual booth, love the sign at the bottom.
