January 7,2014, Tuesday

3rd Day in the evening Kauai,Hi.

All dressed up going to the Luau at Kilohana Plantation
 Pre Luau entertainment
Beautiful Hawaii quilt patterns made into pillow covers

Took a train ride around the Plantation.  Gaylord Wilcox  one of Kauai's pioneering sugar barons, and his wife, Ethel built their dream house in 1935, Kilohana, meaning"Unsurpassed".  Decorated with richly crafted wood and art of the Orient,Hawaii. At 16,000 sq. feet, the great Tudor mansion is the largest and most expensive home ever built on Kauai. The 105 acre plantation opened in 1986 for the public, the house is now a restaurant and museum downstairs with a rum tasting room and little shops in the 3 bedrooms upstairs.
We got Orchid Lei's when arriving for the Luau
Banana trees above and pineapple bushes below, it takes 2 years for a pineapple to grow.

Open window train, they have captured the Farel pigs and put them in a pasture along with sheep and a couple of family horses.

Got to stop and get off the train to feed the animals bread crumbs

 Sunset over the Plantation

 Opening ceremony of the Luau

They told the history of the first peoples arriving in Hawaii
Sail of the small outrigger and strong winds(Lady in the blue) bring them to the islands
 Neat fire dancing
